Bienvenido Al club Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Este último fin de semana el circuito ATP dio un nuevo debutante en el difícil arte de ganar títulos. Fue el noveno del año, pero no es simplemente uno más, sino que se trata de uno de los jugadores más espectaculares que dio el tenis de los últimos tiempos. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, el jugador francés que sorprendiera durante el primer Grand Slam del año al llegar a la final, se dio el gusto de conseguir el primer título de su corta carrera. Una carrera corta por su edad pero sobre todo por sus ausencias fruto de sus constantes lesiones que lo tienen en un constante estado de “retorno”. Este título le llega tras su ausencia de 3 meses en el circuito debido a una operación en su rodilla derecha.
Primer Título
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga le ganó la final del Thailand Open nada más y nada menos que a Novak Djokovic, el hombre que le arrebatara la final de Australia. Por supuesto no se comparan los títulos y por ende es absurdo hablar de revancha, pero sí se puede hablar del valor de este título teniendo en cuenta al rival al que tuvo que vencer en la instancia decisiva. Más allá de los detalles del partido, es una alegría enorme que este increíble jugador esté otra vez en carrera. Esperamos que el físico le dé algo de respiro para tener la suficiente continuidad para sostenerse como un protagonista en los torneos importantes.
Potencia
De lograr esa continuidad, estamos en presencia del jugar más atractivo que ha dado el tenis en mucho tiempo, porque además del carisma natural que tiene, su juego es pura explosión de potencia, movilidad y talento. Con una facilidad notable para todos los golpes, ya sean de derecha o de revés, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga es un jugador netamente de ataque. Uno de esos jugadores que gustan tirar a las líneas, y ante la menor excusa, subir a la red a cerrar los puntos. Todo esto lo hace con espectacularidad, irradiando en la cancha una energía que al rival le llega como pura vitalidad difícil de contrarrestar cuando el francés está derecho. Este año lo sufrió Nadal comiéndose una paliza increíble en la semifinal de Australia (6-2, 6-3 y 6-2). En aquella oportunidad el español fue un simple testigo de la contundencia de un jugador que demostraba que inspirado y con confianza, puede fácilmente borrar de la cancha a cualquier top ten.

La combinación de talento y potencia que muestra este francés recuerdan inevitablemente al mejor Safín. Alto y con mucha masa corporal como el ruso, tiene una pelota muy pesada y un excelente saque que aún le queda margen para mejorar. Sus reveces son un calco, y en cuestión de movilidad, tal vez el francés le saque una pequeña ventaja. Sea como sea, una presencia como esta es siempre bienvenida en el tenis, un deporte donde el talento rara vez se expresa con la espectacularidad de la potencia, mientras que aquellos jugadores que por naturaleza apuestan a su potencia, rara vez están dotados de un gran talento a la hora de improvisar o apostar a algún chiche.

Tenis Champagne saluda a este nuevo campeón y le prende alguna vela para que las lesiones lo dejen en paz por algún tiempo, esperemos que eso le de la continuidad suficiente como para darnos una idea de cuál podrá ser su techo. También deseamos que en lo que queda de temporada logre los puntos suficientes como para lograr anotarse en el Master de Shangai, ya que es claro que su presencia sería mucho más atractiva que la de Ferrer o la del Conejo Davydenko. Tsonga es un gran jugador, muy bueno, el cual ha luchado con mucha garra y esfuerzo para ganar su primer Grand Slam, espero que este muchacho siga entrenando duro con mucha dedicación para que llegue lejos.
